Anti-Bullying Week 2021
Today marks the first day of the UK's annual Anti-Bullying Week. It is a week that takes place November 15th through the 19th . This week seeks to bring awareness to bullying of children in schools and provide resources and resolutions to parents and teachers. About 80% of schools participated in the event the previous year—reaching 7.5 million kids in the process. The first time this was celebrated was in 2004 and is put on by the Anti Bullying Alliance (ABA) in England. Every year has a specific goal and slogan. This year is “one kind word”. Meaning that just one nice word to another person could make a lasting difference. Starting off Anti-Bullying Week is Odd Socks Day.
Odd Socks Day
Odd Socks Day is the first day of Anti-Bullying Week where children, teachers and even some celebrities wear colorful, fun or mismatched socks. This was started in 2017 to inspire individuality and support the fact that everyone is different and that it's okay to be. Over 5 million kids take part each year!
What You Can Do
Wear Odd Socks, Of Course
The simplest way of celebrating is to wear an odd pair of socks. Really, it's as easy as putting on a crazy pattern, two completely different ones, or even just your favorite color socks. It's a little late now but we've got everyone covered in preparation for next year with some awesome socks that would be perfect for the day here.
Donate
Donating to the cause is not required but always appreciated. According to their website, donating to the National Children's Bureau (NCB) through the ABA will: "help teachers and professionals working with children and young people to tackle bullying, Develop support for parents and providers on how to protect and support their children, Influence and improve national policy on bullying so that the UK is a world leader in preventing bullying, and Run the high-profile Anti-Bullying Week campaign in schools and communities across the country each November."
If you post about it at all on social media, use #oddsocksday and #antibullyingweek
